bioJens Ourom is a British Columbia-raised, Fredericton, New Brunswick-based writer, traveler, adventurer and adventure travel writer. Following experience as a freelance reporter for the Canadian Community Newspaper Association's Best All-Round Newspaper (2005, 2006), the Squamish Chief, he spent time as the Capilano Courier's Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Opinions Editor.
In the summer of 2005 Jens completed a 4507-km cross-continental bike trek from Lisbon, Portugal, to Athens, Greece. His vastly condensed story of this adventure was chronicled in the Pique Newsmagazine in a 3-part travel feature series in August 2007 (archives). He is currently working on a book-length account of this often unforgettable journey, head east, don't die. To join the mailing list and receive exclusive preview installments of head east, don't die click here.
Whilst living in Fredericton and exploring the Maritimes, Jens will be reporting in a jensourom.com exclusive, The Maritime Diaries, his first impressions of the eclectic cities that constitute New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI, and Newfoundland. Enthused about the vibrant state of Canadian travel writing, Jens cannot go without acknowledging the influences of such writers as Colin Angus, Will Ferguson, Taras Grescoe, J.B. Mackinnon and Yann Martel. These Canadians lead their fields and all have contributed to defining contemporary travel and adventure writing. "See the world, and then paint it with words for those less fortunate that they cannot see it themselves." - Jens
